      Education

It’s that time of year when we                                                            gather those children who are                                                         ready for their first communion                                                      and their families together to talk about what it means to come to the table and receive the sacrament.

We would like to invite all 5th grade students and 4th grade students, whose parents think they are ready for the experience, (AND their parents) to join us for our 2010 First Communion Education which will include the following:

·        Two sessions: one on Sunday March 14th and one on Sunday March 21st – both from 9:15am – 10:15am in the Sanctuary.

·        Our Seder Supper Experience on Wednesday evening March 31st at 6:00pm.

·        Maundy Thursday Worship and First Communion at 7pm on Thursday April 1st.

If you have a child who you feel is ready, but is not yet in the “right” grade – make sure to talk to Pastor Rhonda about the possibility of taking part in our Education process this year. In addition if you have an older child who has simply not yet received communion and would like to take part in our Education process, please make sure to talk to Pastor Rhonda as well.

Youth and Family Ministry Newshttp://kindergartengs.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/hug-club-clip-art-581.jpgFrom Pastor Rhonda… Well, we certainly can’t say that things have been boring around here can we?  From the sweetheart dinner to Lenten suppers – from kids singing in church to more than 200 hearts being hung in our sanctuary!  Ministry is going strong here at Long Lake and it is GOOD – VERY GOOD!  I would like to introduce you to the new Youth Representative on our Council here at Long Lake…he is awesome!  We couldn’t ask for a more faithful replacement to our exiting council Representative – who I also want to give props to.  Tina Anderson served as the Youth Rep. for three years and did it oh so well.  She will be missed – but not much, as she will still be cajoled into a myriad of things as just because her term is up doesn’t mean her passion for kids is! :0)  Thanks Tina – for all your hard work!  And –now – welcome Bruce Riebe…man of the hour.  We welcome you with open arms and a great big “to do” list my friend!  Why don’t you tell the congregation a little bit about yourself…

From the                Youth Chair…

My name is Bruce Riebe and I am the Vice Chair of the Church Council and will specialize in youth ministry.  I bring to Long Lake a list of experience that I hope can better all aspects of our church:

On the Youth side – Coaching:  5+ years of Youth Football and 6+ years of Youth Baseball. I also have been working the youth on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights at Long Lake and have even chaperoned the WI Dells Quake.

Organizational-Business side – Current Webmaster of Long Lake Lutheran site as well as many other Youth & Community organization’s websites, 5+ years of Chairman of Trinity Lutheran School Board, past Board Director of MNUSA Wrestling, past Director and VP of Gladiator Wrestling.  In my work I am charged with keeping 300 computer servers/systems running for 3000 users.  I supervise a staff of 41 to make sure that happens.

My goal at Long Lake is to reinforce the love of Christ to the youth that are currently involved with Long Lake and to bring in more youth that have rejected the “Church Way”.  I would also like to teach them that they can have a friend in Christ and with people at Long Lake Lutheran.  I hope to be able to marry my strengths of organizational-business skills with my experience working with youth to better our already exciting program!

One of my first tasks as a member of the Council is the Renovation of the Cornerstone building.  I am looking for input and help in this task.  Please contact me via email bruce.riebe@gmail.com or phone (763) 444-7078 if you can help!

God’s Great Get-Together

What – you ask is a Butter Braid?

It is a YUMMY pastry filled with fruit and sometimes cream cheese too that is perfect for any morning, brunch, or just about any time.  It comes frozen and all you need to do is take it out of the freezer, let it rise and bake it for a short time to enjoy its wonderfulness!

WANT TO TASTE ONE?

Join the South Dakota Mission Trip Crew on Palm Sunday (March 28th) after our 1 service for fellowship hour where we will treat you to a taste of yummy Butter Braids and a chance to then purchase them as a fundraiser for our mission.  We will have a limited amount on hand to take with you and will also be taking pre-orders.
